About Christopher
I always felt that I knew Christopher pretty well. To me, he was kind, sensitive, understanding – a passionate negotiator, deep thinker, and true person. Some might say I am biased since I’m his godfather but after reading all of the comments made by his friends after his passing, I am realizing that not only did I not know him completely, but I don’t think he knew himself either. After reading these comments, it’s very apparent that he was a best friend to everyone (I don’t think he knew how many people’s lives he impacted on a daily bases). To have this kind of impact on so many people, takes a special person.
Christopher taught me many things during his time here; when he was little sitting in his car seat, he would let me know when I was not using the best language when talking about the other drivers. When discussing his bedtime, he taught me how to properly negotiate a better bedtime. He would spend hours educating me on all of his wrestlers and what each one was known for. As he started growing, so did his vocabulary. By the time he was in grade school – he had a larger vocabulary than I did. As he worked toward his adult black belt, he taught me about commitment. It took years for him to earn his adult black belt, but he was always excited when he showed me his moves or what Kata he was working on. During our runs, he taught me what a great young man he was. He taught me about his values and principles. Even after his passing, he is still teaching me. I have learned that we cannot take anyone for granted. I need to take each day and be thankful for it and the people in it. During the 5K Run/Walk, let us learn from Christopher, we don’t know how long we have with each person we love. Take the time, hug your family tighter and make sure you find the time to spend with them. Live each day to the fullest and embrace what life throws at us. I would give anything to have just one more day with him. One more day to discuss how I would kill a zombie, one more run with him, one more wrestling match to watch, one more horror movie, or one more of his trade mark hugs.
This run is not only a memorial to Christopher, but to anyone you might have lost. During the 5K run or 1 mile walk, remember all the good times you had with the person you lost. Think about what they meant to you and keep their memory alive.
Whether you are doing the run in Christopher’s memory or a loved one’s memory, your entry fee is going toward a scholarship to help ensure the Academic Excellence in our future generations. The student, who is awarded the Scholarship, will be a student of high standards, since Christopher had high expectations of himself.
